For Writers

Translate Your Stories From a Selection of 77 Languages

All published stories can now be translated into any language! We’ve added 77 languages to the HackerNoon distribution machine. Watch your stats exponentially grow, rank for keywords in other languages, and reach a diverse but relevant audience with translations! Visit your story setting to add the desired translations to your story!

We couldn’t add all 77 languages to a single story (we did list them all here if you’re interested)—just imagine the long list of language icons! 😮‍💨 Instead, a select number of stories were translated into 13 languages, with English, Spanish, and Japanese consistently included due to their rapid growth. The remaining 10 languages are randomized, making it a fun surprise to see where your work will appear. Visit some of the new languages homepage here, here, and here.

There are 2 ways to translate your stories!

1. Via Our service page:

  • Visit app.hackernoon.com/services
  • Go through the story translating package and pick the number of languages you’d like your story translated to – 1, 6, or 12 translations!
  • Add your product to the cart or click “Buy now”
  • Add any discount coupons, save products, or delete them on the “Your Cart” page.
  • Checkout: add your payment details and hit “Pay now”. A confirmation email will be sent, and your account history will be saved for future purchases.
  • Pick a story to be translated: Go to your order link, pick a story from the list of all published stories.
  • Pick the languages: whether you choose 1, 6, or 12 translations, simply type in the languages you want in the search bar. You might also recognize the flags, which come with every language!
  • Click next and voila, you are done! Please allow some time for the translations to populate! API calls and all 🙂

2. Via Story setting page:

  • On any of your published stories, click on the “edit” story button atop your title. You would have to be logged in to HackerNoon with your writer email to see this button.

  • Once there, open the story setting. You’ll see the translation service available for ordering right away!
  • Select the translation option – 1, 6 and 12 languages – and hit “Buy now”
  • Checkout: add your payment details and hit “Pay now”. A confirmation email will be sent, and your account history will be saved for future purchases.
  • Your order will load on a new page. Here you can review all your details.
  • Pick the languages: whether you choose 1, 6, or 12 translations, simply type in the languages you want in the search bar. You might also recognize the flags, which come with every language!
  • Click next and you are done! Please allow some time for the translations to populate.

Introducing the HackerNoon Inbox

Communicating with our editors just got a little easier! A new direct messaging feature has been added to your draft settings for faster, more streamlined communication. To use it, simply scroll down to the “Messages” section in your story settings (previously called Notes), type your message and click the arrow to send. When an editor replies, you’ll find their response in the same section. All conversations are saved within the draft, making it easy to keep track of your communication history.

But there’s more! HackerNoon now features an inbox where you can view all conversations between editors and writers related to your drafts. To access your inbox, go to app.hackernoon.com/inbox and browse through your conversations. From this page, you can reply to any DM, view the conversation on the draft page (by clicking the expand icon at the top), and access HackerNoon’s Help and FAQ pages. Here’s what it looks like:

Introducing HackerNoon’s AI Editor

Planning your content is only half the battle; producing it is the other half. To make the process smoother, HackerNoon offers an In-line AI Editor designed to improve your writing as you go.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Highlight the sentence or paragraph you want to improve.
  2. Click on the green robot icon that appears in the toolbox.
  3. The AI interface will display the highlighted text, an “Ask Dr.One” button, and a dropdown menu with options like Editor, Format Code, Translate, and Format.
  4. Select the preset you need and click “Ask Dr.One.”
  5. The AI-generated output will appear in the dialog box. Once you’re satisfied with the result, click the “Accept” button.

This feature is only available for published (and trusted) writers.

Auto Tweet Via API On X/Twitter

Our developers have just added an auto-tweet feature via API. Now, every published HackerNoon story will automatically get a shout-out on Twitter. Each tweet includes the meta description, the first two tags as hashtags, and, if provided, tags the writer’s Twitter/X handle. This means your content will be instantly shared with our followers, giving your story extra exposure with no extra effort from you.

Townhall Mode and Approval Mode Made Clear On Comment Settings

As a writer, we believe you should have a right to choose how you want to open up a conversation in the comments section. That’s what HackerNoon’s Townhall Mode is here to do.

How it works:

  1. Write a story

  2. Open story setting – right top corner of your screen

  3. Scroll down to the “Allow Comments” section

  4. Select between Townhall Mode or Approval Mode:

    1. Townhall Mode: Anyone can comment, no moderation is required.
    2. Approval Mode: Comments must be reviewed before publishing.

New Addition to HackerNoon AI Image Generator: Flux

If our AI Image Generator has been a part of your story creation, you’ll be excited about our latest addition: FLUX.1 [schnell].

This is Flux’s fastest model, tailored for local development and personal use. Flux.1 Schnell merges technology and aesthetics, focusing on futuristic, abstract, and often glitch-inspired visuals. The art might blend elements of modern digital culture with fluid, fast-paced transitions, often using dynamic shapes, neon lighting, and distortions to create a sense of rapid evolution or chaotic energy.

For Readers

A New Way to Discover Tags

HackerNoon tag pages have received their first major update in 5 years! Our newly revamped tag index page makes it easier than ever to find exactly what you’re looking for.

What’s new on tag pages?

  • Explore Over 88,000 Tags on the Tag Index Page: Discover popular tags like “Most Used,” “Trending,” and “Last Published” on HackerNoon. Each tag shows how many stories have used it and includes a brief description to give you a better understanding. You can also navigate tags through “Parent Categories,” which represent HackerNoon’s curation of essential tech topics.
  • New Individual Tag Pages: We’ve upgraded individual tag pages to feature user testimonials, unique banner images, and action buttons to subscribe to tags, start writing, or explore related topics. Plus, a search bar allows you to find sub-tags within each main tag, generating an infinite list of stories matching your interests. You can also filter results by “Most Read” or “Most Recent”.

How to Search for Tags

Enter your desired keywords in the search box at the top-right corner of the page. As results are generated, you’ll see a list of related tags, each showing the number of stories published under it. Select the tag that catches your interest—for example, #hackernoon-product-update.

Once you select a tag, you’ll be taken to its dedicated page, where you can subscribe for updates (wink wink!). Below the writing contests and testimonial sections at the top, you’ll find a search bar to refine your search with secondary tags. For example, if you type #gif, your results will narrow down to relevant stories, helping you quickly find exactly what you need.
