Have you ever heard of this sales tactic?
“Are you tired of wasting hours during X? Why don’t you try Y!”
I’m sure you did. For example: “Don’t spend hours writing your own code, use our software instead!”. Or “Stop wasting hours on your ads, use AI instead!” (my YouTube recommendation algorithm loves that one, and it’s probably my fault because I’m always talking about AI).
This sales tactic is based on the fact that the time that you spend on a problem that you want to solve can be optimized.
“Nerdly” speaking, when you read this sales tactic, you usually have two options: exploration or exploitation. What do I mean by that? I’ll explain in a moment. For now, remember the sales tactic, and put it in the back of your head. We’ll be back on it.
Let’s say you have a tool, a knob you can tune. By moving this knob, you get a waiting time. Imagine you are in line for a coffee at Starbucks and the knob has two states (0 and 1): 0 could mean “stay in the same line” and 1 could be “change the line”. Which one means “waiting the least amount of time”…
